Histoy of Unix Operating System
In the year 1969, Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie and their fellow computer scientists at Bell Laboratories started a project to create an operating system.
This project was named Multics at that time. Whose full name is Multi-Information Computing System. Then this operating system mostly supported two users.
his operating system was reformed again in the year 1970 under the name of new project in Bell Laboratories.
This time the name of this new project was named Unix. Whose full name is Uniplexed Information Computing System.
This Operating System was written in Assembly Language.
Ken Thompson also created a programming language to create this operating system. Which is called B Programming Language.
B Programming Language was created in the year 1969 by improving the BCPL Programming Language. But there were some flaws in B Programming Language.
Due to which the operating system could not be created from it. But it was kept open source. Due to which Dennis Ritchie started modifying it and created
C Programming Language in the year 1972. C Programming Language was a good programming language for UNIX. That's why the Unix Project was written again in 1973 in
C Programming Language. Which was renamed to UNIX.
Specialty of UNIX?
Ken Thompson wanted to make an operating system. For this he also made a programming language.
This proves that the UNIX operating system is special from other operating systems. Here you will know why
the UNIX Operating System is special from other Operating Systems. That is, what is the specialty of UNIX.
- The UNIX Operating System was written in High Level Programming Language. So it is easy to understand and modify it.
- UNIX allows for multi-user and multiple simultaneous tasks.
- UNIX Operating System supports Command Line Functionality.
- GUI is also seen in UNIX like Windows Operating System.
- Operating System is available with Open Source License.
- The UNIX Operating System is the mother of many popular operating systems.
